What is the difference between a weed and a plant?
A quick search on the web might reveal:
"Some plants are considered to be "weedy plants" because they spread easily and grow without any purposeful cultivation, but they aren't weeds. Only invasive plants are considered to be weeds. Plants that invade the habitats of other plants, causing damage and death, are considered to be weeds."
There are several references made to plants in the bible. You can read many of them for yourself in Matthew Chapter 13. Jesus' parable of the wheat and the chaff describes a most curious handling of God's precious plants. He cleverly describes the Gardener who sowes a field with wheat; however, the enemy comes at night to destroy the wheat by planting weeds. The gracious gardener chooses to allow the wheat and weeds to grow together until the harvest when the weeds can then be safely extracted from the precious wheat and tossed into a fire. Jesus' words were so unimaginably ahead of their time that it still resonates to this day!
The enemy, the devil, the father of lies, was a narcissist. Not just a narcissist, but THE narcissist! This mental disorder deals with a distortion of reality accompanied by pathological envy, greed, in some degrees murderous rage (Cain), lack of empathy, arrogance, entitlement, lies, manipulation, parasitic exploitativeness, vanity, and of course self-centeredness. It was the enemy that sowed the weeds in the garden. To some degree we are all afflicted.
The wheat are the faithful ones who joyfully received the word of God. They are the empathic, compassionate, humble, sincere, and truth seeking people of the world. Sometimes they are exploited by the weeds who parasitically feed off of the healthy wheat even to the point of death like vampires. The weeds cannot self-regulate, they produce nothing of value and so they must pathetically depend on the life blood of others.
The harvest represents the end of time, when God's angels will collect and separate the wheat from the weeds. The faithful will be welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven, the narcissistic weeds will be thrown into the fire.
This simple parable is especially relevant in todays times where social media, relationships between the sexes, and most capitalist industries are overrun with blatant narcissism, in fact today's society actually seems to reward it. As we navigate a worldwide pandemic of biblical proportions, the days seemingly grow closer to the harvest Jesus spoke about.
In closing, it is my sincere wish to shine a light on this subject, to broaden awareness, and to help as many as I can reach to be counted among the good fruits of the harvest.
